Puppy’s death sparks outrage, brings community together

The shooting death of a puppy in the Fairbanks area has ignited community outcry as residents who have had similar experiences with their animals question how the authorities respond to such incidents.

Dan Powell tells the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner he let his dog out to use the bathroom when it went missing. After searching his neighborhood, he came home to find his young dog Lucy shot dead in his driveway.

Powell took to a community Facebook page to share the incident with others, who reported similar stories about their dogs going missing and being shot.

Many also expressed outrage that Alaska State Troopers aren’t investigating the incident.

Trooper Scott McAfee attended a meeting organized by the community Sunday. He urged residents to keep their dogs secured and said he’d continue to monitor the situation.
