Man in Wasilla shot by State Troopers after charging at them with a knife

Alaska State Troopers shot a man wielding a knife Thursday evening in Wasilla.

Troopers responded to the incident just after 7:20 p.m. and encountered 33-year-old Joshua Smith.

According to a Trooper dispatch, while officers were talking with the man, he charged at them, knife in hand.

Two Troopers fired their service weapons and a third attempted to use a Taser.

Smith suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and was transported to an Anchorage hospital, where he died Friday morning.

No Troopers were injured in the incident. The two who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative leave for 72 hours, per department policy. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.
